  • Born 12 August 1756 in Palermo (then Spanish Naples); died 9 March 1806 of wounds received at Trafalgar.
  • Commanded the Spanish contingent of the Combined Fleet under Villeneuve in the 1805 campaign.
  • Flagship at Trafalgar: Príncipe de Asturias (112).
  • Wounded by grapeshot in his left arm; died slowly of complications five months later in Cadiz.
  • A capable, respected officer — his death deprived the Spanish navy of its best modern admiral.
