Overview
The threat is already on the Egyptian Expedition 1798–1801 and the Battle of the Nile 1798 — Overview. Bonaparte sailed from Toulon on 19 May 1798 with 35,000 troops and a fleet of 13 ships of the line, headed for Egypt to threaten Britain’s route to India.1
The Threat

Nelson Horatio — Biography Overview missed the French at Toulon, Malta, and Alexandria, then found the fleet in Aboukir Bay — Egypt on 1 August 1798. The Nile destroyed it. The army was stranded. Bonaparte slipped back to France in August 1799 aboard the frigate Muiron — French Frigate, abandoning his troops. The victory triggered the Second Coalition 1798–1802.2
