Overview

Mutine is already on Hardy Thomas Masterman — Captain HMS Victory and the Battle of the Nile 1798 — Overview. In May 1797 Hardy led the cutting-out of the French brig La Mutine at Tenerife and was promoted master and commander of the prize.¹

This note covers those Hardy days only. Launch year, a gun-count, and a later career stay on RESEARCH_QUEUE. Hardy’s quoted words stay on the Hardy note.

On 1 August 1798 the brig HMS Mutine under Hardy was with Nelson’s thirteen 74s and the 50-gun HMS Leander — 50-gun Fourth Rate at the Nile.²

On 2 October 1798 Hardy was posted captain into HMS Vanguard — Nelson’s Nile Flagship and left Mutine.³
