HMS Helena — Brig

Generated illustration. Not a historical photograph. A sailing fleet. Not a named portrait of Helena.

Overview

The brig is already on Hardy Thomas Masterman — Captain HMS Victory. Hardy entered the Navy as captain’s servant aboard the brig HMS Helena in November 1781, aged twelve.1

The Entry

This note covers that brig entry only. A gun-count, a launch year, and a later career stay on RESEARCH_QUEUE. Do not write Helena as more than a brig.

The same Hardy note already records that he was born 5 April 1769 at Kingston Russell House — Dorset and attended Crewkerne Grammar School c. 1782–85 while nominally borne on HMS Seaford and HMS Carnatic. Those sentences stay there. Seaford and Carnatic stay red-links: the filled note does not state a rate.2
