Overview

The build is already on HMS Royal Sovereign — Overview. That 100-gun first-rate was laid down at Plymouth Dockyard in 1774 and launched there on 4 September 1786.¹

The Build

This note covers that yard-build only. A founding year for the yard, a workforce, and Chatham statutes stay on RESEARCH_QUEUE.

The Sovereign note already records a fresh copper bottom applied at Plymouth just before the 1805 campaign, and that she was later broken up at Plymouth in 1841. Those sentences stay there. Copper Sheathing — Hull Protection is the Victory 1780-refit note. Royal Dockyards — Largest Industrial Enterprises already names the five great yards as a scale fact; this note does not reopen that list.²
