HMS Conqueror — Overview

Generated illustration. Not a historical photograph. A British 74 under sail. Not a named-ship portrait and not a likeness.

Overview

The surrender is already on Villeneuve Pierre-Charles — French Admiral and Bucentaure — Overview. Villeneuve, reportedly the only senior officer aboard Bucentaure not wounded, surrendered to a boarding party from HMS Conqueror.1

The Surrender

This note covers that boarding-party surrender only. Bucentaure — Overview names the ship as a 74-gun third-rate and names Capt. James Atcherley as leading the party. A gun-count beyond that rate, and any officer the filled notes do not name, stay off.

The raking of Bucentaure by HMS Victory — Overview stays on those notes. The post-battle loss of the prize is on Storm After Trafalgar — 24–29 October 1805.2
