The Strike

Southey says Nelson found Latona in English Harbour, Antigua, with a broad pendant hoisted under a written order from Sir R. Hughes that resident commissioner Moutray might hoist one. Concluding that a resident commissioner held only a civil situation, the moment that he had anchored he sent an order to the captain of the Latona to strike it, and return it to the dock-yard.²
