Vanguard Four-Day Refit — St Pietro

Generated illustration. Not a historical photograph. A storm at sea. Not St. Pietro, and not a portrait.

Overview

HMS Vanguard — Nelson’s Nile Flagship already records the 1 August flagship. Vanguard Foremast — Gulf of Lyons already records the May gale. This note covers the four-day refit only.1

The Refit

Southey says that by the exertions of Sir James Saumarez, Captain Ball, and Captain Berry, the Vanguard was refitted in four days; months would have been employed in refitting her in England.2

The interdict on entering the port, and the carpenter recommendation, stay on RESEARCH_QUEUE. This page does not invent a person page or a rate.
