Diane is already named on the Battle of the Nile 1798 — Overview as one of two frigates that escaped Aboukir Bay at dawn on 2 August 1798, with Justice — French Frigate.¹

Service

This note covers that escape only. A gun-count, a captain, and a later career stay on RESEARCH_QUEUE.

The other two named survivors were the ships of the line Guillaume Tell — French 80-gun Ship and Généreux — French Ship of the Line. Villeneuve Pierre-Charles — French Admiral in Guillaume Tell cut his cables at dawn.²
